All trainees seeking a CCT in Plastic Surgery must:
a) be fully registered with the GMC and have a licence to practise.
b) have undertaken 6 years of higher surgical training in a UK or Ireland training programme.
c) have successfully passed the Intercollegiate Specialty Board examination.
d) have been awarded an outcome 6 at a final ARCP (gained all required competencies).
In addition to the above there are certain proofs of competence which must be provided including logbook operative numbers.
For the last few years the JCST has been using an indicative logbook which is considered the minimum operative numbers necessary to be awarded CCT.
Recently 60-70% of CCT applications are being rejected due to inadequate numbers in certain areas, burns resuscitation to name just one.
The full criteria for awarding of CCT can be found at http://www.jcst.org/quality_assurance/Docs/cct_guidelines_plas
