Dear all,

I post below an email from ASiT, whom help fight our cause.

http://www.asit.org/news/cost_of_sur...raining_survey

This survey is about "The Cost of Training", and should we have enough people replying, there is a very real chance that the results can be powerful enough to make a difference to us all, nationally. However, currently the number of responses is not sufficient to be significant (only 15 Plastic Surgery Trainees have thus far replied...), & so, more than ever, EVERY REPLY COUNTS...!
For contrast, the Neurosurgeons have >4x our response in terms of numbers. For Plastic Surgery, 8 units of 10 people responding will make more than 10% of the total replies that we have so far. That's what we need - as I say, with a survey like this, every reply counts...

http://www.asit.org/news/cost_of_sur...raining_survey

Please could anyone who reads this forward it on to all trainees in their unit / on their rota list? It's most likely that our own members aren’t aware of the survey: Given that our specialty’s trainees probably face the highest costs in surgical training (biased opinion, of course, but probably a true one!), it is probably extremely important that we have a much, much greater response from our own specialty’s trainees.

Cheers all, for your anticipated input...!
===============================================

Costs of Surgical Training Survey 2010
Dear surgical trainees,

ASiT need your help in completing our survey into how much your surgical training is costing.

The last ten years have seen training costs increase dramatically while funding has been cut. The JCST Trainee Fee is only capped until next year and we need you to tell us if you are happy with the current funding arrangements.

Current issues relating to funding in surgical training include:
· Who should fund postgraduate medical education (PME)?
· What proportion of the costs of PME should be borne by the individual in training?

ASiT previously published a discussion statement on this topic in 2007, which can be downloaded from our website at the link below. Given the increases in exam, course and training fees, in addition to spiraling graduate debt, it is time to update this.

Please give us 5 minutes of your time to complete this; the data collected will help ASiT campaign for better value in your surgical training. Please help us to help you!

Follow this link to take part in the survey:
