Current Awareness Bulletin - Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery from the RCS(Eng)

All members of the RCS(Eng) will hopefully have received their first monthly issue of the 'Current Awareness Bulletin' from the RCS Library. If not, check your spam!

This is available to all members connected with plastic surgery.

The aim is to provide access to the recent articles of interest from across the plastic surgery literature. There is also a collection of systematic reviews, NICE guidance, reports and media articles.

If you would like to receive the bulletin please email [email protected]. It is available to view online here.

This was the first issue. The Information Services staff would be very grateful for feedback.

Fellowship at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide

There is a senior registrar type fellowship available from July (or as soon as the paperwork can be arranged if it takes longer than that) for 6-12 months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide.

The fellow takes main responsibility for overseeing the department and reports back to the five consultants (Tim Produman, Richard Harries, Michelle Lodge, Isaac Harvey and Bernard Carney).

The workload is general plastics, skin cancer resection and reconstruction, breast reconstruction, body-contouring type procedures and facial trauma. There may be some paediatric brachial plexus and congenital hand surgery depending on how the rota is structured (these happen at the Women's and Children's Hospital, and the fellow may or may not also cover that).

Fulvio Urso-Baiarda is doing the fellowship currently and says "it has been great - the consultants give you as much or as little supervision as you want and as is appropriate, and it is brilliant for letting you start to spread your wings, think independently, follow up all your own patients and manage your own (and others') complications. I'd be happy to discuss it with anyone interested in applying".

Fulvio is contactable on [email protected]

Applications themselves should be directed to the unit secretary, Jen O'Connor jennifer.o'[email protected]
